Ivy Investigation
project Type: Post Graduate Project
MA Graphic Communication Design
at Central Saint Martins
Completed: Fall 2019
This project began as an observation exercise around my complex in London, The Alexandra and Ainsworth Estate. I became fascinated by the juxtaposition of the plant growth and the decay on the walls, as well as the shapes of the fossilized ivy.
This led me into extensive research about ivy and its relation with concrete walls, followed by a series of experiments. I created silicon molds to capture the texture of the walls and the ivy rootlets, and played around with casting it in clay and resin. I also used the wall mold as a stamp to create a pattern on paper, which I turned into a series of digital prints.
